Scanners and phone cameras record an orientation flag that plenty of PDF readers ignore, which is how you end up with a document that is upright on your screen and sideways on someone else’s. Rotating the pages fixes it permanently rather than per-viewer.

What Rotate PDF does

Turns pages by 90°, 180° or 270° and writes the new orientation into the file, so it opens correctly everywhere.

You can rotate the whole document or just some of it. That matters for scans, where a single landscape page — a table or a signature sheet — often sits in an otherwise portrait file.

Detailed steps

  1. Drop the PDF in.
  2. Pick Rotate by. If the page is lying on its right side, 90° clockwise is usually wrong and 270° is right — check one page before doing all of them.
  3. Leave Which pages as all, or list the ones that need it.
  4. Rotate and download.

Worth knowing

Rotation is stored as metadata rather than by redrawing the page, so it is lossless and instant, and doing it twice gets you back where you started. That also means a page that looks rotated because the scan itself is crooked cannot be fixed here — that needs a re-scan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only some pages are sideways. Do I have to do them separately?

No. Put those page numbers in the “Which pages” box — for example 4,7,12 or 5-9 — and the rest are left alone.

How do I know whether to use 90° or 270°?

If you have to tilt your head to the left to read it, use 90° clockwise. If you tilt right, use 270°. Rotating one page first and checking is faster than guessing on a hundred.

Will this reduce quality?

No. The orientation is a property of the page, so nothing is re-encoded and the file size barely changes.

My PDF still opens sideways after rotating.

Some older readers ignore page rotation entirely. If a specific application is the problem rather than the file, converting the pages to images and rebuilding is the reliable fallback.

Is Rotate PDF free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Rotate PDF runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Rotate PDF works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

This tool processes everything locally in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
