What Crop PDF does
Trims a fixed amount from each edge of every page, measured in points — the PDF unit, where 72 points is one inch. The default of 36 removes exactly half an inch.
This changes the page boundary rather than deleting content: anything inside the trimmed area is cut off, so measure before committing.

Worth knowing
Trim the sides more than the top and bottom. Most documents have far more horizontal margin than vertical, and it is the top and bottom that carry page numbers, headers and footnotes — the things you most regret cutting. Try 60 pt left and right against 20 pt top and bottom before going further.

How do I convert points to millimetres?
72 points is one inch, so one point is about 0.353 mm. A 36 pt trim removes 12.7 mm — half an inch — from that edge. The Unit Converter handles anything more awkward.
Does cropping make the file smaller?
Barely. Cropping changes the visible page boundary; the content is still in the file. If size is the goal, use Compress PDF, which actually reduces the data.
Can I crop different amounts on different pages?
No — the same trim applies throughout. For a document where the first page differs, split it off, crop the two parts separately, and merge them back.
Can I undo a crop?
Not from the cropped file, so keep your original. Cropping past your content is the common mistake; check a page with a header and a page with a footnote before you rely on the result.
