Most of the time "splitting" a PDF really means keeping a handful of pages out of a long document — the signed page from a contract, chapter three, the invoice at the back. This takes a page range and gives you exactly those pages.

What Split PDF does

Extracts the pages you specify from a PDF into a new document, leaving the original untouched.

Ranges are written the way you would say them: 1-3 for the first three pages, 2,5,9 for individual pages, 1-3,7,10-12 for a mixture.

Page range syntax

A range1-3 — pages one to three
Single pages2,5,9
Mixed1-3,7,10-12
NumberingStarts at 1, matching what your PDF reader shows
Out-of-range pagesIgnored; the tool tells you how many pages the file actually has

Detailed steps

  1. Drop the PDF in.
  2. Type the pages you want to keep in the Pages to keep box — not the ones you want to remove.
  3. Extract, then download the new PDF.

Worth knowing

If it is easier to describe what you want gone than what you want kept, use Delete PDF Pages instead — same job, opposite input.

Frequently Asked Questions

It says no valid pages in my range. What went wrong?

The numbers fall outside the document. The error message tells you the real page count — check for a typo, and remember the first page is 1, not 0.

Can I split one PDF into many separate files?

This tool produces one document per run. For several outputs, run it once per range.

Does the text stay selectable?

Yes. Pages are copied rather than re-rendered, so text, links and vector graphics all survive intact.

Which page numbers do I use — the printed ones or the PDF ones?

The PDF ones, as shown by your reader. A document whose first page is numbered "iii" still counts as page 1 here.

Is Split PDF free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Split PDF runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Split PDF works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

This tool processes everything locally in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
