Combining PDFs is the one office task that reliably sends people to a website, and most of those websites upload your documents to a server to do it. Contracts, invoices and scans are exactly the files you would least like sitting on someone else’s machine.

What Merge PDFs does

Combines up to 20 PDFs into a single document, in the order you add them, keeping every page of every file.

Pages are copied across rather than re-rendered, so text stays selectable, vector graphics stay sharp and the output is not a stack of images.

Limits and behaviour

Files per mergeUp to 20
Total sizeUp to 100 MB
Page orderThe order you add the files; pages within each file keep their order
Text and vectorsPreserved — pages are copied, not rasterised
Encrypted PDFsRemove the password first
MinimumTwo files

Detailed steps

  1. Add your PDFs — pick several at once, or add them one at a time; each one joins the list rather than replacing it. Drag a batch onto the page if you prefer.
  2. Check the numbered list. That order is the order of the merged document, and the arrows next to each file change it; Remove drops one without starting over.
  3. Check the list before you run it; reordering afterwards means merging again.
  4. Merge, then download the combined PDF.

Worth knowing

If you need pages interleaved rather than appended — say, a double-sided scan that produced odds and evens as two files — merge first, then use Reorder PDF Pages to sort them.

Frequently Asked Questions

The merged file is huge. Why?

Merging does not re-compress anything; the output is roughly the sum of the inputs. If the result is too large for email, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

Not directly — the file has to be readable first. Use Remove PDF Password on it, then merge.

Did my documents get uploaded?

No. The merge happens inside this browser tab using your own machine, which is why there is no queue and no upload wait even for large files.

Can I choose which pages from each file?

Merge takes whole documents. To take a subset, use Extract PDF Pages on each file first, then merge the results.

Is Merge PDFs free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Merge PDFs runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Merge PDFs works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

This tool processes everything locally in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
