Learn more about privacyThe lossless counterpart to PDF to JPG. When the pages are text, diagrams or line art, PNG keeps every edge crisp where JPEG would soften them and leave a faint halo around each letter.
What PDF to PNG does
Renders each page of a PDF as a PNG image at a resolution you choose.
PNG is lossless, so what you get is exactly what the renderer drew. On pages of text and vector graphics that is a visible improvement over JPEG; on photographic pages it mostly means a much larger file for no benefit.
Resolution and when to choose PNG
| Standard | 1.5× — screen viewing, smallest files |
|---|---|
| High | 2× (default) — good for most uses |
| Very high | 3× — print, or when text must survive zooming |
| Output | One PNG per page |
| Choose PNG for | Text, diagrams, line art, screenshots of pages |
| Choose JPG for | Photographic pages — much smaller, no visible loss |
| Transparency | Not produced — PDF pages have a white background |
Detailed steps
- Drop the PDF in.
- Pick a resolution. High suits most uses; Very high only if it will be printed or zoomed into.
- Convert, then download the pages you need.
Worth knowing
Higher is not automatically better. At 3× a long document produces very large files and takes noticeably longer, and on screen it is indistinguishable from 2×. Match the setting to where the image is actually going.
Frequently Asked Questions
PNG or JPG — which should I use?
PNG when the page is mostly text, tables or diagrams, because lossy compression puts a faint halo around hard edges and small type suffers most. JPG when the page is mostly photographic, where the files are far smaller and the loss is invisible.
Can I get a transparent background?
No. PDF pages are opaque, so the render includes the white page. Removing it would need editing after export.
The output is blurry even at Very high.
Then the source page is a low-resolution scan. Rendering cannot add detail that was never captured — the ceiling is whatever the original scan contains.
I only want a few pages.
Run Extract PDF Pages first to make a shorter PDF, then convert that. It is faster and avoids rendering pages you will throw away.
Is PDF to PNG free?
