What Rounded Corners does
Rounds the corners at a radius from 2% to 50% of the image’s shorter side, default 12%. Because it is a percentage, the same setting looks consistent across images of different sizes — and 50% produces a circle on a square image.
The corners it removes become transparent, which is why the output format matters.

Save as PNG or the rounding is wasted. JPEG has no transparency, so the corners you removed come back as solid black or white — and the result looks like a mistake rather than a design choice. This is the single commonest way rounded-corner exports go wrong.

How do I make a perfect circle?
Set the radius to 50% on a square image. On a non-square image that gives a stadium shape instead — crop to square first, or use the Circle Crop tool.
Why is the radius a percentage rather than pixels?
So the same setting looks right on a 200 px avatar and a 2000 px banner. A fixed pixel radius that suits one is invisible or overwhelming on the other.
Will it work on a photo with a busy background?
Yes, but the effect is clearest against a plain background. The rounding removes the corners regardless of what is in them.
