Nearly every platform displays profile pictures as circles, but almost none let you see the circle while you are choosing the photo. The result is a perfectly good picture with an ear clipped off.

What Round Profile Picture does

Crops a square from the centre of your image and masks it to a circle, so you can see exactly what survives before uploading.

The background behind the circle is your choice. Transparent needs PNG and looks right anywhere; a solid colour is safer where transparency might render as black.

Options

BackgroundTransparent (default), White, or Dark
Crop areaThe largest centred square that fits
OutputPNG, so the transparent option works
Where circles are usedProfile pictures on most social and messaging platforms
ResolutionThe square is kept at full resolution — no resampling

Detailed steps

  1. Drop the photo in.
  2. Choose a Background. Transparent unless you know the destination fills it with something odd.
  3. Crop and download the PNG.

Worth knowing

A circle cuts the corners off a square, so anything near an edge disappears — roughly 21% of the square’s area goes. Give the subject room before uploading, and expect a tightly framed photo to lose more than you think.

Frequently Asked Questions

The circle cropped my face oddly.

The square is taken from the centre of the image. If your subject is off-centre, crop to a square in the right place first with Crop Image, then run it through here.

My transparent background shows as black.

Something in the chain does not support transparency. Re-run with White or Dark to match where it is going.

Do I need a circular image at all?

Usually not — platforms mask a square automatically. This is for seeing the result in advance, and for places that display the file as-is.

What size should a profile picture be?

Square and at least 400×400. Larger is fine; platforms downscale. Resize first if the file is very large.

Is Round Profile Picture free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Round Profile Picture runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Round Profile Picture works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

This tool processes everything locally in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
