A watermark is a deterrent, not a lock. Done well it makes casual reuse obvious and annoying to remove; done badly it either ruins your own image or wipes off with a two-second crop.

What Image Watermark does

Overlays text across an image at a size, opacity and position you control.

Position is the setting that decides whether the watermark actually works. A single mark in a corner is removed by cropping. Tiled across the whole image cannot be cropped out without destroying the picture, which is the entire point.

Settings

Text size2–20% of image width, default 6%
Opacity5–100%, default 35%
PositionTiled across (default), Centre, or Bottom right
Hardest to removeTiled — it cannot be cropped away
Easiest to removeBottom right — one crop and it is gone

ResolutionUnchanged

Detailed steps

  1. Drop the image in and enter your watermark text.
  2. Set Position. Choose Tiled across if the point is deterrence rather than attribution.
  3. Set Opacity — 35% is the default and is the usual sweet spot; below about 20% it stops being a deterrent.
  4. Adjust Text size and download.

Worth knowing

Watermark a copy, never your original. The mark is drawn into the pixels and cannot be removed afterwards, so keep the clean file somewhere safe — the number of people who discover this after overwriting the only version is not small.

Frequently Asked Questions

What opacity should I use?

Around 35% for most images. High enough to be unmistakable, low enough to leave the picture usable. Below 20% it becomes easy to paint out; above 60% you have largely ruined your own image.

Can the watermark be removed?

A corner mark can be cropped off in seconds. A tiled one cannot be removed without visibly damaging the image, which is as far as any watermark goes — it raises the cost of theft rather than preventing it.

Can I use a logo instead of text?

Not in this tool, which is text-only. For a logo you would need to composite the images in an editor.

Does it work on transparent images?

Yes, though the text is drawn over transparent areas as well, which may look odd. Watermarking usually makes more sense on a finished image with a background.

Is Image Watermark free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Image Watermark runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Image Watermark works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

This tool processes everything locally in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
