How to use Vocabulary Builder
Provide the content or settings.
02Let the browser do the work.
03Copy, download or continue.
04Your files stay private
Your work is processed locally in your browser where possible and is never added to a Vootkit upload library.
Learn more about privacyLearning a word means learning it in context. A list of translations produces recognition — you know the word when you see it — without production, which is the ability to reach for it when speaking.
What Vocabulary Builder does
Keeps a word list with meanings you can reveal one at a time, so you test yourself rather than read a table.
Stored in your browser, so the list persists between sessions without an account and without anything leaving your device.
How it works
| Entry | Word and meaning |
|---|---|
| Study mode | Reveal the meaning after attempting it |
| Storage | Browser local storage, this device only |
| Syncs? | No |
| Survives clearing browser data? | No |
| Language-specific features | None — works for any language |
| Account needed | None |
| Uploaded anywhere | No |
Detailed steps
- Add words as you meet them, in context, rather than from a list.
- Include a short example sentence in the meaning field.
- Test in both directions — word to meaning, and meaning to word.
Worth knowing
Add an example sentence, not just a translation. A word learned alone gives you recognition; a word learned in a phrase gives you the grammar and collocation that let you actually use it. "Rendre" means little on its own — "rendre un livre" tells you what preposition to expect and what it goes with.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many new words a day?
Ten to fifteen is sustainable for most people. More than that and the review burden compounds until you stop. Consistency matters more than volume — a hundred words a week retained beats three hundred forgotten.
Why test in both directions?
Because recognising a word and producing it are different skills. Meaning-to-word is harder and is what you need to speak; word-to-meaning alone leaves you understanding a language you cannot use.
Will my list sync to my phone?
No. It is stored in this browser on this device. Keep a copy elsewhere if the list matters — clearing site data removes it permanently.
Does it work for any language?
Yes — the fields are just text, so scripts, tones and non-Latin alphabets all work. There is nothing language-specific in it.
Is Vocabulary Builder free?
Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Vocabulary Builder runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Vocabulary Builder works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.
How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?
On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.
