A receipt is proof that money moved. It is the document your client needs for their bookkeeping and their tax return, and the one you will want if a payment is ever disputed — which is why it says PAID and an invoice does not.

What Receipt Generator does

Produces a document headed RECEIPT with a green PAID badge, addressed "Received from". The badge is the functional part: it is what distinguishes this at a glance from an unpaid invoice sitting in the same folder.

Line items and totals work exactly as on the invoice, with the discount applied before tax.

What makes it a receipt

Status badgePAID, shown in green
Addressed"Received from"
RecordsMoney already paid — not money owed
Line itemsDescription, quantity, unit price
Order of operationsSubtotal → minus discount → tax on the remainder

Detailed steps

  1. Enter your details and the payer’s.
  2. List what was paid for, matching the original invoice if there was one.
  3. Add the payment date and method in the notes.
  4. Print to PDF or download, and send it promptly.

Worth knowing

Reference the invoice number on the receipt. Your client’s bookkeeper is trying to match two documents to one bank transaction, and a receipt with no reference makes that a manual job — which is how a paid invoice ends up chased anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between this and an invoice?

Timing and intent. An invoice requests payment; a receipt confirms it arrived. The heading, the PAID badge and the "Received from" wording all exist so nobody has to work out which they are holding.

Do I have to issue receipts?

It depends where you are and what you sell — many jurisdictions require them for consumer sales, and some require specific details. Issuing one is good practice regardless, since it closes the transaction cleanly for both sides.

Should the receipt show the payment method?

Yes, in the notes. "Paid by bank transfer, 12 March" makes reconciliation trivial for whoever is matching your document against a bank statement.

Can I use this for cash payments?

That is exactly where a receipt matters most — a bank transfer leaves its own record, cash does not. Note the amount, the date and that it was cash, and keep your copy.

Is Receipt Generator free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Receipt Generator runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Receipt Generator works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

This tool processes everything locally in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
