How to use Voice Recorder
Provide the content or settings.
02Let the browser do the work.
03Copy, download or continue.
04Your files stay private
Your work is processed locally in your browser where possible and is never added to a Vootkit upload library.
Learn more about privacyRecording a quick voice note usually means opening an app, granting permissions and finding the file afterwards. A browser recorder skips all of it — and, unusually for a web recorder, keeps the audio on your machine.
What Voice Recorder does
Records from your microphone using the browser’s MediaRecorder API, producing WebM audio.
Nothing is uploaded. The recording exists in the page until you download it, which is the right arrangement for a voice note and unusual among web recorders.
How it works
| API | MediaRecorder — built into the browser |
|---|---|
| Output format | WebM |
| Permission | Your browser will ask for microphone access |
| Uploaded? | No — the recording stays on your device |
| Stored? | Only until you leave the page — download it |
| Need MP3? | Convert afterwards with the Audio Converter |
| Quality | Depends on your microphone, not the tool |
| Background noise | Not removed — see the tip |
Detailed steps
- Allow microphone access when asked.
- Record, then stop.
- Download before closing the tab — nothing is saved automatically.
Worth knowing
Get closer to the microphone than feels natural. Distance is what makes recordings sound thin and echoey, because a distant mic picks up more room than voice — and no processing fixes that afterwards. Six inches away in a soft-furnished room beats any amount of editing on audio recorded across a desk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It is captured by the browser and held in the page until you download it. Nothing is transmitted, which is the point — voice notes are frequently personal.
Will I lose it if I close the tab?
Yes. Nothing is saved automatically, so download it before navigating away. That is the trade-off for not storing anything on a server.
Why is the file WebM rather than MP3?
WebM is what the browser’s recorder produces natively. Run it through the Audio Converter if you need MP3 for compatibility.
How do I improve the quality?
Get closer to the microphone and record somewhere with soft furnishings. Distance and hard surfaces cause the echoey, distant sound that no post-processing removes convincingly.
Is Voice Recorder free?
Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Voice Recorder runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Voice Recorder works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.
How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?
On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.
