Most recordings have dead space at both ends — the fumble before you started and the reach for the stop button afterwards. Cutting it is the single fastest improvement to any voice recording.

What Audio Trimmer does

Cuts a section from an audio file by start and end time.

Trimming removes data at full quality, which makes it the best first step before compressing: the seconds you cut cost nothing in fidelity, while the ones you compress do.

Detailed steps

  1. Add the file.
  2. Set start and end times, leaving a beat of silence at each end.
  3. Trim and download.

Worth knowing

Trim before you compress. File size is bitrate times duration, so removing thirty seconds of dead air takes that share out at full quality — whereas achieving the same saving by lowering the bitrate degrades the whole recording. Cut first, compress second, and only if it is still too big.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does trimming reduce quality?

Not for the audio you keep — it removes a section rather than re-encoding what remains. That is why it is the right first step whenever a file is too large.

Can I cut a section from the middle?

This selects a range to keep. To remove a middle section you would trim twice and rejoin in an audio editor.

How much silence should I leave?

A beat at each end — around half a second. Cutting hard against the first word sounds clipped and abrupt, and a little air makes a recording sound deliberate.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, which matters for interviews and voice notes.

Is Audio Trimmer free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Audio Trimmer runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Audio Trimmer works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.
