Learn more about privacyTrimming is the one video edit that costs nothing. Because the streams are copied rather than re-encoded, it is fast, lossless, and it is almost always the first thing worth doing to a clip.
What Video Trimmer does
Cuts a clip to a start and end time by copying the streams, without re-encoding.
That copy is why it finishes almost instantly on a file that would take minutes to compress — and why the picture is bit-for-bit identical to the original within the section you kept.
Behaviour and limits
| Method | Stream copy — no re-encoding |
|---|---|
| Quality | Identical to the source |
| Speed | Near-instant, even on large files |
| Cut accuracy | Snaps to the nearest keyframe |
| Typical keyframe spacing | Every one to ten seconds |
| Maximum input | 200 MB |
| Output | MP4 |
Detailed steps
- Drop the video in.
- Set the start and end in seconds.
- Trim and download.
Worth knowing
Trim before compressing, always. File size is bitrate multiplied by duration, so removing four seconds of dead air at each end takes that share off the file at full quality — no encoder can match a saving that costs nothing. On a Discord clip it is often the whole gap between 12 MB and 9 MB.
Frequently Asked Questions
My cut is a second off from where I set it.
Cuts snap to the nearest keyframe, because cutting between them would require re-encoding and lose the speed and quality advantage. Keyframes are typically one to ten seconds apart, so set your start slightly early if the exact frame matters.
Does trimming reduce quality?
No. The streams are copied rather than re-encoded, so what you keep is bit-for-bit identical to the original. It is the only video operation here that is genuinely lossless.
Why is it so much faster than compressing?
Because nothing is decoded or re-encoded — it copies the bytes you asked for and writes a new container. Compression has to process every frame; trimming does not.
Can I cut a section out of the middle?
Not in one pass. Trim the part before and the part after separately, then join them with a video joiner. This tool keeps one continuous section.
Is Video Trimmer free?
Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Video Trimmer runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Video Trimmer works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.
How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?
On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.

Your video is processed entirely in your browser. The video engine downloads once from a CDN the first time you run a tool, then works from cache. Large files are memory-bound, so keep clips reasonable.
