A photo that displays upright on your phone and sideways on a laptop has not changed — only the software reading its orientation flag has. Rotating fixes it in the pixels, where nothing can ignore it.

What Rotate Image does

Rotates an image by 90° right, 180°, or 90° left, writing the new orientation into the pixels themselves.

That distinction matters. Many photos carry an EXIF orientation flag telling software how to display them, and plenty of applications ignore it. Rotating here makes the change unconditional.

Options and behaviour

90° rightClockwise, a quarter turn
180°Upside down
90° leftAnti-clockwise, a quarter turn
DimensionsWidth and height swap on a quarter turn
QualityLossless — pixels are rearranged, not resampled
EXIF orientationNot relied on; the rotation is applied to the image itself
Arbitrary anglesNot supported — 90° steps only

Detailed steps

  1. Drop the image in.
  2. Choose the direction. If you have to tilt your head left to read it, use 90° right.
  3. Rotate and download.

Worth knowing

Rotating in 90° steps is lossless because it is a pure rearrangement of pixels. Rotating by an arbitrary angle is not — it requires resampling every pixel and softens the image, which is why straightening a crooked scan costs quality in a way that turning it sideways does not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which direction do I need?

If you tilt your head to the left to read the image, rotate 90° right. If you tilt right, rotate 90° left. Guessing has a 50% success rate and it takes one attempt to find out.

Why did my photo look fine on my phone but not my laptop?

The phone honoured the EXIF orientation flag and the laptop software did not. Rotating here changes the actual pixels, so the result is correct everywhere regardless of what reads it.

Does rotating reduce quality?

Not at 90° steps — it is a lossless rearrangement. Only arbitrary angles require resampling, and this tool deliberately offers quarter turns only.

Can I straighten a slightly crooked photo?

Not here. That needs an arbitrary angle plus a crop to remove the corners it introduces, which is an editor’s job. This handles the quarter turns that fix orientation.

Is Rotate Image free?

Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Rotate Image runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Rotate Image works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.

How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?

On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.
