How to use it

A practical quality check
If footage has ever drifted out of sync in an editor, variable frame rate was almost certainly the cause. Screen recorders and phones produce it routinely, editors assume constant, and the gap accumulates over minutes. Converting first fixes it before it becomes a problem you have to diagnose.
Common questions
Why convert to MP4 specifically?
Because H.264 in an MP4 container is the closest thing to universal — phones, browsers, editors, TVs and social platforms all accept it. MKV and AVI are perfectly good containers that a great deal of software still refuses.
Will converting reduce quality?
Slightly — it is a re-encode, so it is not lossless. At the default settings the loss is not visible in normal viewing, but convert from your original rather than from an already-converted copy.
Which frame rate should I choose?
Match the source. Converting 30 fps footage to 60 does not add smoothness, it duplicates frames and grows the file. Going from 60 to 30 halves the frames and is a reasonable size saving if you do not need the motion.

Trim it first — that is lossless and usually what you wanted anyway. The limit exists because the whole file is held in memory in your browser, and above it the conversion fails partway through rather than completing badly.
