How to Increase or Reduce Video Volume Safely

A practical example

Suppose a voice peaks at half the available digital amplitude. A 150% multiplier raises that peak to three quarters; 200% reaches the ceiling. A louder laugh elsewhere in the recording may already be near that ceiling, so the same adjustment can distort it. These are signal-level examples, not measurements of your clip.

Check the result

Compare the voice, the loudest transient and the background hiss at the same playback volume. If noise becomes distracting before speech becomes clear, stop increasing gain and use an editor with noise treatment or record again.

Try a comparison

Compare 100%, 125% and 150% copies of the same short section. Keep the player volume fixed between comparisons. If the louder version merely makes a ventilation fan louder, the useful next task is isolating speech, not increasing the multiplier again.

What this does not establish

A single multiplier cannot balance two speakers independently. Keep the source and compare downloaded audio through headphones before replacing it.
