Learn more about privacyA countdown does one thing a calendar cannot: it converts a date into a quantity. "14 March" is information. "37 days, 4 hours" is pressure, and pressure is usually what the person setting it actually wanted.
What Event Countdown does
Counts down to any date and time you pick, updating every second, in days, hours, minutes and seconds.
It runs off your device clock and your local time zone, which is the right behaviour for a personal deadline and the wrong one for coordinating across countries — see the note below.
Behaviour worth knowing
| Time zone | Your device’s local zone — the target is read as local time |
|---|---|
| Accuracy | Ticks every second against the system clock |
| Past dates | Counts upward instead, so it doubles as a "time since" counter |
| Daylight saving | Handled by the browser; a target across a DST boundary stays on the wall clock |
| Runs | Entirely on your device — nothing is scheduled on a server |
| If you close the tab | It stops. This is a display, not a reminder |
Detailed steps
- Pick the target date and time.
- Leave the tab open, or reopen it whenever you want the current figure.
- For a date in the past, set it anyway — it counts up, which is how long since something happened.
- Coordinating with people elsewhere? Convert to their zone first.
Worth knowing
A countdown is a display, not an alarm. It will not notify you, it does not survive the tab being closed, and it has no idea whether you are looking at it. If something must actually interrupt you at a specific moment, set a real alarm on a phone and use this for the psychological effect of watching the number fall — which is genuinely useful, and completely different from being reminded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which time zone does the target use?
Your device’s. If you enter 09:00 the countdown targets 09:00 where you are sitting, so a colleague in another country running the same target will see a different number. For anything shared, agree the moment in one zone and have everyone convert to their own before entering it.
Will it notify me when it reaches zero?
No. It is a display that updates while the page is open, with no notification permission and nothing scheduled anywhere. Closing the tab ends it entirely. For anything that must interrupt you, use a device alarm and treat this as the visible reminder that sits alongside it.
Can I count down to something years away?
Yes — the arithmetic is the same whether the target is tomorrow or a decade out, and it will show the full day count. Very distant targets tend to be more motivating expressed in weeks or months, which is a mental conversion rather than a limitation of the tool.
What happens if I pick a date that has already passed?
It counts upward from that moment instead of down, which turns it into an elapsed-time counter. That is deliberately useful: anniversaries, sobriety dates, days since a project started, or how long a problem has been outstanding all read naturally that way.
Is Event Countdown free?
Yes. The Vootkit free plan includes 5 tool runs a day. Upgrade to Vootkit Pro for unlimited daily use, an ad-free workspace and saved workflows.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Event Countdown runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. There is nothing for us to store or delete.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Event Countdown works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Open the page and start.
How often can I use it? Is there a daily limit?
On the free plan you get 5 tool runs a day. When you reach the limit you'll see a prompt to upgrade, and it resets the next day. Vootkit Pro removes the cap entirely for unlimited daily use.
