How to Create a BRB Screen and Countdown Overlay

Prepare a break scene that protects your microphone and makes the return understandable.

A practical example

Imagine stepping away during a live demonstration. A useful holding screen says that you are taking a break and gives an honest return estimate. Switch to the break scene during a private recording, speak near the microphone, then inspect the recording to confirm whether audio was actually muted.

Check the result

Check the source type of the exported file: add an image as an image source, or a saved HTML screen as a browser source. A visual break card does not mute a separate microphone source.

Try a comparison

Record a scene transition with the microphone enabled, then repeat with it muted. Compare the two recordings. This directly checks the privacy behaviour of the broadcast setup; changing the BRB screen’s colour or wording cannot control that behaviour.

What this does not establish

Avoid a precise return time you cannot keep. Keep a hotkey or scene control available so resuming does not reveal the wrong window.
